Christian Science is an objective, systematic exploration of the words and works of the Biblical character Jesus, who was known as “The Christ,” hence it is a science of the Christ. The Christian Science Organization (CSO) at UW Madison is a registered campus group of students who study and share these Christ teachings and principles known as Christian Science.
Truth in Biblical reports
The pulse of the CSO is found by asking “What if there was truth in the biblical reports of Jesus (and some prophets) using metaphysics to influence physics: to still storms, or heal sickness, or feed crowds?” What if those stories give evidence, not of “miracles,” but of consistent laws of spiritual harmony that we don’t yet generally understand how to use?
And if the reports are true, might it be possible to learn what some ancients knew – which enabled them to override the traditional assumptions and limitations about the nature of physics, sickness, and conflict? Could this be similar to how we finally discovered the laws of aerodynamics and harnessed them so we could fly, or learned to manage silicon to put the world-wide-web on a screen in our pocket?
What if there are principles of spiritual reality more powerful and consistent than our current experience with matter-based thinking? What if there was more to life than what the five senses tell us? Christian Science offers evidence that these principles can be learned and be applied to overcome modern challenges, as documented in thousands of cases.
Can science reveal an understanding of Jesus?
Our age has applied scientific methods of rational thinking and research that resulted in major paradigm shifts. Natural science has delivered quantum leaps in mastery of matter, as well as greater understanding of how our mind works. As the natural sciences reveal more order and apparent precision in our universe, we may find the statements of Jesus more credible, such as, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father” and “the kingdom of God is within you.”
Along this journey into natural science, we may find some parallel paths into a science of what Jesus the Christ was demonstrating and explaining. It may eventually lead to a concept known as “God,” recognized as Principle, order, harmony. Just as we are comfortable with the reliable principles of mathematics, which deliver order when correctly understood and applied.
